Early last winter, I decided that the idea of a 944 with an LS-swap was too cool to resist. In the process of exploring that I met a guy who has since become a good friend. I helped a bit on his re-build of a salvage 944 that had some front-end damage. Then yesterday I derailed his enjoyment of the finished product by showing him a well-priced Boxster that he went ahead and purchased.

In an effort to make peace with his wife for convincing him to get yet another car, I’d like to share with Oppo the opportunity to purchase his 944, if anyone is so inclined. I can vouch for the fact that it is in good shape and is worth the cost for the spare parts alone, not to mention what is on the car.

Since last winter I have decided ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) to spend a bit more for an LS engine in an actual Corvette, and I’m still saving my pennies for that. Otherwise, I’d buy this as a fun car, or maybe go through with the LS-swap. Perhaps you would like a fun car with the LS-swap potential?

Contrary to what the interwebs will tell you you can’t realistically swap an LS into anything for less than a ~$10k budget (or what a decent C5 costs these days). The people who actually can have the benefit of equipment and experience

edit: had some accidental shouting from not noticing I’d hit caps lock

Shhh. I’m trying to help it get sold, stop it with that reality stuff.

Actually, it depends on how you approach it and what specific LS you want to put in. If I recall correctly, I came up with a low end budget of $7500 of additional cost (not counting the original car and labor/tools) if I started with a 944 with a turbo transaxle in it, and used a lower power LS that could be obtained cheaply from a salvage yard.

But, yeah, realistic budget was $10k or more to do it the way I would want.

It’s still a fun car to drive even with the original engine.

As I believe Holmes said to Watson when discussing engine swaps, “You know my methods”.

Only 130hp until you monkey with it, but...

And over 300k miles. Well, it’s an option . . . for someone else.

Wait, no head and no wiring harness. Geez, I’m pretty sure there are better packages in the junkyards around Charlotte for similar cost.

Right, pricing sample only. I wouldn’t buy that one, but that general idea. A 2.0 R4 is a better idea, and an R5 if it could be made to fit better still, but the 1.9 is the easily-had one.

Also, there’s the whole “I don’t have a ‘78-’80 924 as yet”.
